I have a new Dell Inspiron One running Windows 7, with an Intel Core i5.
I would like my old computer, a Dell Dimension 3000, running Windows XP Professional , Pentium 4 to share the WiFi connection.
What type of WiFi card do I need for the Dimension to be able to connect and make a home network?
The wireless router, a NETGEAR N150, and the Inspiron are downstairs while, the Dimension is upstairs. I’d rather not try to run a wire to the router if I don’t have to.
What about the Dimension, upstairs, being able to print from the printer down stairs?
Is this an easy thing to do? Can a just barely computer literate person do this?
From what I'm reading from the specifications, this wireless router uses the 2.4GHz band. Any a/b/g wireless adapter should be able to connect with no problems, providing the Xp machines are using Windows XP SP2 or SP3.
Use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings in your wireless router, I use channel 11. Most wireless adapter, especially USB Adapters, connect best on channels 1, 6 or 11. I would make a new SSID to make conecting easier.
It's easier to purchase usb wireless adapters, because it's easy to install and use. Just make sure to use the recomended wireless settings and you should be able to connect with no problems.
Glad you got it working! :emotion-21: Thanks for posting back.
When you're ready to install the printer, please go to Dell Printers Forum Tell the make and model of the printer and how you're trying to connect the printer.
Also give the make and lodel of the computer and operating system. 32-bit or 64-bit.
Please provide the virus program and firewall you're using.
I monitor the Printers forum, so I'll see when you post there. Depends on my work schedule, I try to get back as soon as possible.

For file and printer sharing, tre reading...
Share Files and Printers between Windows 7 and XP (this works both ways)
