Optiplex 7010 graphics upgrade
Hi guys i have an optiplex 7010 MT, core i5 3470 3.2Ghz, 16GB RAM on windows 10 pro. I am looking to upgrade graphics from the on board to a dedicated card. Trying to do the required research is frying my head as i am fairly new to PC's in general, so not a load of knowledge but interested in learning. Any advice or knowledge you guys could give would be much appreciated to point me in the right direction. Thanks

@bradthetechnut So a 1050 ti would be perfect, i might sound a bit stupid but does the amount of vram make a big difference or no? Also would the card have to be low profile as a lot of those videos were of low profile cards? Thanks for the reply

Graphic card and processor will work great together:
Intel Core i5-3470 (Clock speed at 100%) with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (Clock speed at 100%) x1 will produce only 0.42% of bottleneck.
The above bottleneck quote is from PC Builds. Furthermore, PC Builds recommends at least 8GB RAM, and you have that exceeded.

So a better gpu would cause the cpu to be the bottleneck, so it would have to be upgraded and then the psu would need to be upgraded to supply enough power then your in better system territory? Out of interest what would be the best cpu i could use with this motherboard i believe E93839 is the motherboard number

You're welcome.
You'll notice in the videos the GTX 1050 ti is being run on stock PSU's, including in a 790 MT, similiar to the 7010, but a little older.
The GTX 1050 ti simply takes power from the PCI-e slot.
Not only is 0.42% bottleneck great (10%+ is considered bottleneck), but you don't have to upgrade PSU's.

If we kept going up in GPU's, then bottleneck would be an issue with your CPU and likely would have to upgrade PSU's as well. I think you got the best, or one of the best, combos for your 7010.

@bradthetechnut Brilliant man! That's a big help, ill definitely have a look for one. Would a 1050ti need extra power from psu or would it draw all required power from pcie? Also is a 275w psu powerful enough to run the system with that card or would i be looking to upgrade that as well! Thanks again

Top Google definition: More vRAM means the GPU can hold and ultimately render more complex images and textures on the graphics chip, resulting in faster performance.
It sounds similiar to adding RAM to a PC -.makes it faster.
You shouldn't need a low profile card for your MT. Most of those videos were SFF's and 1 or 2 DT's.
I forgot to key in "MT" in my search term. This list has a couple or few more MT's. I was just making the point the 7010 can take the GTX 1050 ti. Optiplex 7010 MT + GTX 1050 ti + YouTube List
