Raid 5 rebuild failed because disk medium error

We have a Poweredge T110 Percs100.

Raid 5 with 3 drives.

A single drive failed so we replaced it.

When attempting a rebuild it gets to 52% and fails.

Any suggestions?

Should we add an extra drive in the 4th slot and try again?

Thanks

Dan

    Hello

It looks like physical disk 2 is the HDD you are trying to rebuild and PD 1 is the HDD that is causing the error. You can try another HDD, but I would expect the same result since the error is from PD 1 and not the disk you are adding. I would suggest making sure you have a good backup. You are likely going to need to delete and recreate the array because some array data is corrupt or inaccessible.

    Thanks

Hi Daniel, Many thanks for your advice. Could you outline in very basic terms the best process to 1. Backup entire server (is there a way to create a mirror/image of server on external media/drive.) 2. Create new array 3. Restore from mirror/image onto the new array Many suggestions or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks Dan

In my experience with T110, when we've had RAID rebuild issues we have had to resort to deleting the VD, replacing the failed disk, recreating the VD and doing a restore from tape. T110s we have been using have always be problematic. Good job we only use one or two.
