Multiple Dell Precision 7875 dead after switching GPU to 5070Ti

Hi,

Working in a research institute. We ordered 4 Precision 7875 (16-cores TR PRO, 128Gb, ssd, RTX A400). We had Linux on them and everything was fine.

Then we got some new RTX 5070Ti (MSI) so I wanted to put one in a Precision 7875. After I installed the card, the 7875 would not start at all anymore, (no post) even when I put the original GPU card back in.

I tested everything (see below), nothing worked. I tested the 5070 card on another computer, and it worked great. So I tried it on a second 7875 one, and the same thing happened (machine is dead, no post).

So I tested it on a third tower with another 5070Ti GPU cards (reproducible science :-) ) and the same thing happened, the third machine is dead.

Dell support came today to replace the motherboard on the first 7875, and tested it with the original GPU card, and it worked. I showed that the 5070Ti worked on another Dell machine (a 2022 Precision 5820). He then tried putting it on the 7875, and the motherboard failed again...

Symptoms

- When you plug in the power cable, instead of turning on and then off after 5-6 seconds, it stays on.

- No display (no signal, no Dell logo), no power on the USB ports.

- The button stays solid white.

- If you hold down the on/off button, the machine restarts, but it stays the same (no error color code). The power supply is on, the fans are spinning; no video signal. No power on the USB ports

- If I remove the RAM, I get the correct error code.

The Dell technician who came tested everything (removing the battery, pressing the on/off button for 40 seconds, etc.) but no solution, still dead (all this with the original GPU card back in).

Tried with both PCIe 5.0 slots of course.

I could understand that a GPU may not be supported (clearly strange given its a very recent machine) but then reverting to the original GPU should work....

Seems to me like a faulty series wrt GPU/power....anybody has similar issues ?
