Precision 5860 - USB stops working

Is anyone else getting this error intermittently with 5860 workstations:

All USB devices stop working when this error comes up. Only way to fix it is by restarting the computer.

We can still log in to the computer remotely. We checked device manager and this unknown device comes up:

We updated all drivers and BIOS from the Dell website. We also replaced all the USB peripherals. No difference.

Please update your BIOS to the latest version. If you continue to experience USB problems after the update, please let us know.

@Jesse L (retired)  Updating the BIOS to 2.1.5 has made this issue 90% more infrequent.

Unfortunately about once every 2-3 weeks users are still receiving occasional loss of all USB devices that require a power cycle/reboot to resolve, resulting in lost work. Also USB Audio devices will sometimes just drop during Teams/Zoom calls and need to be unplugged and replugged to start working again.

This thread is 2 years old and this is still an issue. We have numerous 5860 Workstations and every day a different user is having an issue with the USB ports. Either the device does not work or it gives a "device faulty" error. The BIOS fix search engines keep directing me to do not work - we are on the latest BIOS with this machine (3.6.) and this is STILL an issue.

Dell, what is the fix for this?

The user has a hub - it still goes in and out but with the hub, she can at least disconnect and connect without a reboot required.

Using the onboard Dell USB, unknown usb devices need to be removed from device manager and machine rebooted.

FYI, created an account to say I'm still experiencing this issue.  Windows 11 25H2 fully up-to-date, all drivers up-to-date (using Dell Command), BIOS version 3.8.0.  I have gone through every workaround mentioned in this and other threads, including reinstalling drivers.  Currently the keyboard/mouse through hub, to rear USB connection.

Sometimes when the USB stops, I can just un-plug and re-connect the hub.  Other times (when I get the unrecognized USB device) no options exist but to reboot.  The issue is this is so intermittent that it is difficult to diagnose, usually because I think it has been resolved after a round of troubleshooting--only to come up again few weeks later.

Just updated to latest BIOS 3.10.0, but I don't see anything in the release notes to give me hope.  Will be looking into the PCIe option next.  Dell needs to fix this issue.

@EmbeddedDev We're experiencing the same thing; the last response I got from tech support is they are still working on it.

The BIOS update did nothing for that issue here.

    Hello,

seems to me an issue with the motherboard, you already checked all the rest. Time to contact prosupport to discuss with them.

If you want to rule out 10000% windows , try to run the pc from linux (live distro or ) for 2 or 3 days. Or you could try an alternative version of windows as a test bench ( 11 , if you have 10 installed  , or viceversa ,  or even windows server ) for a couple of days
