Precision 5540, overheating and restarts in sleep mode

Due to an overheat problem, the motherboard has burned and a memory bank has become damaged and is now unavailable. When I close or keep it unactive some time the laptop should hibernate, but instead the processor and the fans start to work at their highest level and the laptop starts to burn. No way to solve it. The only way I see is to turn off the laptop whenever it will not be in use.

Dell support could not troubleshoot because the universities internal support team disassembled the laptop and removed hardware. They will need to contact the universities Dell TAM (Technical Account Manager) for further discussion.
