After I clicked on my printer, I did not get the Printer Preferences Option. I did , however, remember that when I go to print, there is a "printer preferences" button. When I clicked on it, there was a button on the top indicating "ink Status" and it gave me the information. It was your "clue to " printer preferences that led me to the correct panel. I had never noticed the "ink Status" Button..
There is a display on my v313 printer ( where I select copies, lighter darker etc. I know that I have seen a message about low in supply ( I think it may even indicate black or color), but I don't know how to get the display to indicate at my option.
As I said, however, your clue to Printer properties did get me to my answer.
Rick, I was not clear about clicking on "Printer" . When I accessed the printer through the control Panel, I did not end up with a Printer Preference option. I then when to the print function of a document that does display the "prefereces" selection as you iindicated. Not sure if there is a difference in Control Panel options/functions on the different Windows Op systems.
I have the Dell V715w Wireless printer, so mI use the computer method often. I do scan some images to my computer, so then I go to the printer. I guess that's why I don't knw when the children use most of the ink and I find out when I'm printing.

That's exactly what I was looking for. I just could not figure out how to get to that display "
I hit the wrench icon : It took me to "set up ( paper set up). I then hit the right arrow > indicator and it took me to the set up ( maintenance). I hit the "OK" and it took me to ( Ink Levels) . I hit OK and it took me to the Ink Levels "BLACK) and gave me the percentage % of Black. I backed up to the ink level Black and then hit the arrow >, instead of OK and it took me to Ink Levels Color. When I hit OK, it gave me the percentage of Color Ink.
