CD/DVD-ROM Drive Not Ejecting

Hello,

I have an Alienware M14x with the standard CD/DVD-ROM drive. It refuses the disk which I last inserted into the system. The disk is not broken, and I can still run it, but it just won't eject. Is there an easy fix for it?

    Hi Romengame,

The following steps would help in ejecting the disc.

    1. Get a Paper Clip.
    2. Open out the Paper Clip.
    3. Insert the Paper Clip into the Emergency Eject Hole on the optical drive and move it around in a circular motion.
    4. Check if the drive is ejecting the disk.

    Please post the results.

Ive checked all over the laptop and there is no Emergency Eject Hole anywhere. That was one of the first thing which i tried doing.

    Hi Romengame,

Run Dell 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics on Optical drive. To run the test, please follow the below mentioned steps:

    1. Switch on the computer, tap F12 at dell logo to enter “One-time boot menu”.
    2. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight “Diagnostics” and press enter.
    3. Select Custom Test and select “Optical drive”.
    4. If the test fails, please capture the error code and let me know for the next course of action.

Try the above steps and reply with results.

I assume that you have tried to eject the optical drive through windows explorer. Have tried to eject the drive while being in the system BIOS? If not, follow the below mentioned steps:

    1. Restart the system and tap F2 key at Dell logo.
    2. System will enter the BIOS.
    3. Try to Eject the optical drive.

If issue persists, run Dell 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics on Optical drive.

    4. If the test fails, the optical drive needs to be replaced. If the computer is under warranty, I would be glad to arrange a service on the computer.

Please provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

In case of expired warranty scenario, we would not be able to extend warranty entitled services.
