Two, nearly identical, systems
Dimension E520, Intel Core 2 Duo E6320, 4GB mem
SATA: Intel ICH8R onboard
RAID1: 2x WDC2500JS
WinXP SP3 + recent updates

Copying of GB-files, defragmentation, ... extremly slow

Defragmentation of a 160GB partition (done regulary) takes up to 2 hours (!!!)
There are several VMWare files (3-17GB) on this partition.
During this time, the system is more or less blocked.

HDD Speedtest V1.0.14:
write     2-3   MByte/s
read   17-25 MByte/s

No event errors, Dell Diagnostics perfect, Intel Matrix Storage manager okay
Tests done with different BIOS settings (there isn't much anyway), new cables, disabling SATA CDRW,
external HD SAMSUNG SP2504C (same performance), disabling VirusScan,....
- updating BIOS to 2.4.0 (no change in the Intel Option ROM found),
- updating with latest DELL Drivers/Storage Manager,
- updating with latest Intel Drivers/Storage Manager

Anybody an idea?
