Firmware update

I have a Dell 4800 p4 Ht 3.4 Ghz Computer. It has 512 meg of ram and a 80 gig HD w/ Windows Xp sp2.
CD/rw- Samsung cd-rw sw252s, revision 902
DVD- NEC DVD+Rw Nd-350A, r102B
I have been experiencing troubles with roxio media 7 since the new update. I just got Roxio about a week and a half ago. I receive an error message that states that the current target medium is not recommended for the current device. I have tried different media and I was able to create Cd's w/o problems before the update.   I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software under selective startup and currently I do not have the update applied ( after uninstall). I would like to apply the update at some point because it suppostely fixes other  problems. I haven't even ventured to try to make DVD yet
I have came to the conclusion that my Firmware for the Samsung  Cd/RW needs updated. There is an update on both the Cd Freaks Website and on the Samsung  Web site (r953exp) The problem is that I am not able to apply the firmware update. I receive the following error message:  This firmware is not compatible w/ the selected drive. Contact your system Manufactor for firmware updates. In order to apply the update you have to use a program to install (sfdwin) the bin file
I had contacted Dell technical support (chat) and they acknowlege there is no update on there site, but they could not tell me why the update could not be applied.
The current firmware revision of my Samsung is 902 and I am upgrading it to 953. I tried a earlier update and got the same results. I had tried the files on both web sites.
Had anyone received the same results and what actions were taken to apply the update.

Thank you

    Hi Jcoleman,
Chances are very good the firmware on the Samsung site is for the Retail drive and yours is an OEM.
I do not know whether the firmware from Club Freaks is the same Firmware from Samsung or a "Hacked" update.
Either way, I must inform you the use of them will void the warranty on the drive, with that said, review the firmware at Club Freaks and also consider jumping over to the Firmware Forum and see if the Dangerous Brother might have one, I would trust one of these before the one from Samsung. Open the case and disconnect the NEC drive, IDE cable and power cable, make sure the Samsung is attached to the "End" connection, now see if the firmware will work (if you find one from one of the latter places I mentioned)

    Merry Christmas !

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
