How do I partition?

I just recieved a new computer from Dell that only has Windows XP on it. Using just the software that came with XP how do I partition the drive into 2 parts- one for the OS and one for all the files. The drive is 250 GB. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You either blow away the install and re-partition it (reinstall Windows), or purchase a partitioning program that can do the job without data loss (like Partition Magic).

Boot the XP CD, choose New Install and delete the existing partition(s).  Then create new ones using the disc administrator tool that loads during the XP installation process.

when I boot with the XP CD and choose new install and want to delete the partition he says he can't do it because there are installation files on that partition
