Sonic Software

My new Dimension 2400 came with a NEC 1100a DVD drive and Sonic "MyDVD 5.0 Limited Edition" and "RecordNow 6.5" Software.  I have two questions/problems.

First, which program has the DLA capability, MyDVD or RecordNow?

Second, at the direction of a Dell Tech Support person, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Sonic software.  Before this, I had a tab in the drive properties window that said "DLA".  After the reinstall the tab says "{PC_Unconfig}".  In fact, everywhere where it used to say "DLA" it now says :{PC_Unconfig}".  The Dell rep. had no idea what to do about this.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Stan P.

DLA is a different program than MyDVD or RecordNow. Check out the FAQ's by clicking the following link. http://support.sonic.com/desktop/default.asp?type=desktop&product=mydvd also, right click and save the troubleshooting pdf for DLA, you will need Adobe Reader to view the pdf file.   DLA_Troubleshooting.pdf

I removed all traces of the Sonic software (including DLA) with Control Panel.  I reinstalled the Sonic software using the Dell-supplied disk.  The disk only had "MyDVD 5.0 Limited Edition" and "RecordNow 6.5" on it.  After installing those two programs, Sonic DLA was again shown in the software list in Control Panel.  Hence my assumption that it was installed as part of the above two programs.

I believe DLA installs with RecordNow, however, it is a separate program. I am not sure why DLA is giving such a problem. I have been looking around and have found nothing like this (PC_Unconfig). I am wondering if the upper/lower filters values in the registry have anything to do with this. Since you have uninstalled and reinstalled CD/DVD recording software, I am inclined to think this may be a possibility. Take a look at this article from the Microsoft Knowledge Base and see if deleting the upper/lower filters values helps. It will do no harm and may be worth a shot.

I found what I think is the problem for any other users.  The Dell installed package has DLA included with RecordNow!.  On the sonic website, it says that Sonic's DLA has conflicts with CyberLink's PowerDVD, which was also installed on my computer by Dell.

I deleted both software packages, and removed their folders from the "Program Files" folder.  I then reinstalled the Sonic software and all works as it should.
