I recently did a clean install on my XPS 410 because of blue screen issues when setting up wireless network in my home.  All seemed to go well - is something I have done numerous times on several computers, this one included.  But this time my speaker system (Dell A525 30 Watt 2.1 Stereo Speakers with Subwoofer) obviously caused a problem.  I have the drivers to all my devices on my external hard drive and they are labeled.  The driver to the speaker system loaded but still showed yellow in device manager.  I also kept getting the following message directly after windows loaded:  "The procedure entry point LocalizeString could not be located in the dynamic link library STLang.dll."  I could click OK and proceed. Slowly.  I looked it up on the net and find it is quite common - everybody seems to have a way to cure it but there are always strings attached and none of them work anyway!  One thing all agreed was it pertained to the sound equipment.  And it was the only yellow marked item I had.  Actually it showed in device manager as: "SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC".

I became exasperated to the point I disconnected that sound system and removed it from the room!  I attached an older Dell speaker system and it only worked for a few sounds then stopped.  Eventually I removed the original system, as listed just above, using add/remove programs.  After that the message went away so I am sure it was the problem.  Then, when I couldn't get the other speakers to work I decided to restore to the point immediately before I removed that "SigmaTel" system.  Wrong!  Of course it came back as did the error message and I was unable to get those old speakers installed no matter how hard I tried!  (I don't have the driver for that specifically but the system kept coming up with something that didn't work).  So once again I attempted to uninstall the SigmaTel program but it wouldn't let me!!  Would take me to a website that was of no use to me.

As it stands now, I have reversed that system restore point and the SigmaTel is gone as is the error message.  But I have no working sound system on my 410. 

Any ideas out there?  I have been a member of this community almost since day one and have had excellent results in the past.  I'll bet somebody knows how to help me.  (Anybody remember Denny Denham?  I do but know he isn't out there to help anymore. Always wondered what happened to him.)
