Snapshots and Replication limits and sizing on VNXe
Hi,
Here are some questions about VNXe systems.
Using a CIFS Shared Folder :
- Maximum snapshots
- Maximum size of a share folder
- Maximum number of shared folder
Using CIFS Shared Folder replication :
- How many version / snapshot can be stored on remote VNXe system?
- Can Unisphere be used to schedule replication to take snapshots with local and remote retention?
- Is it possible to purge some intermediate snapshots?
Using a NFS :
- Maximum number of shared folder

Please find support matrix for VNXe:
Using a CIFS Shared Folder :
- Maximum snapshots
Single filesystem/ shared folder can have is 96
- Maximum size of a share folder
Maximum size of shared folder is 16TB
- Maximum number of shared folder
Maximum number of mounts:
VNXe3100/ VNXe3150: 200 single SP/ 600 dual SP (This includes shared folders+Snapshots+iSCSI LUN)
VNXe3300: 800 (This includes shared folders+Snapshots+iSCSI LUN)
Using CIFS Shared Folder replication :
- How many version / snapshot can be stored on remote VNXe system?
Replication creates two replication snapshots. One for base copy and one for delta copy
- Can Unisphere be used to schedule replication to take snapshots with local and remote retention?
You can configure snapshot schedule on source filesystem. Navigate to shared folders-->select shared folder and click on details-->Snapshot tab (Configuring snapshot or replication requires protection space to be configured)
- Is it possible to purge some intermediate snapshots?
You may delete old snapshot from Unisphere. In order to delete replication snapshots, you need to delete replication session and that will automatically delete replication snapshots.
Using a NFS :
- Maximum number of shared folder
Maximum number of mounts:
VNXe3100/ VNXe3150: 200 single SP/ 600 dual SP (This includes shared folders+Snapshots+iSCSI LUN)
VNXe3300: 800 (This includes shared folders+Snapshots+iSCSI LUN)

Starting VNXe Software Version 2.2.0 below is requirement for Protection Space used for snapshots and replication
All iSCSI datastores (Hyper-V, VMFS, Generic iSCSI)
All NFS or CIFS datastores

Thanks for the reponses.
Is there a minimum capacity for space used by local snapshots and snapshot used by remote replication for NFS Shared Folders?
How is it possible to estimate the space needed for local snapshot and replication snapshots?
