Hi, I just bought this used computer a few days ago. I got it home it worked great then I had an idea to get into the control panel and users I set myself up with administrator user and password. Then I went to get back into computer the next day and the first screen that comes up on it is the Administrator and password. This is the only screen that comes up I tried a start up disk but nothing works can't get the start up screen or anything just the Admin and password. Please help!! Oh it's an older style DELL INSPIRON 1200...Thanks! Mary

    Hi Mary,

Please share the Operating system installed.

If you are using Windows XP, you may boot the computer into Safe Mode by following the steps below:

    • Restart the computer.
    • Tap the F8 key on the keyboard during the boot process until you see the Windows Advanced Options Menu on the screen.
    • Select “Safe Mode with Networking” from the menu using the arrow keys on the keyboard and then press the key.
    • Select the user account at the log in screen.
    • Once in Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden Administrator account. The default password is a blank or you may enter the password, you set for that account.
    • Then go to the User Accounts applet in Control Panel and set passwords that you will remember and make other desired changes.

If this does not work, you may need to restore computer to default factory settings. This step will lead to data (pictures, documents, programs, music) loss. Please perform a data backup prior to this step. Please disconnect any external peripherals (printer, scanner or any USB device) as well.
