If your goal is only to read PDF, search for Foxit Reader to download.  It is great and is resource easy on your PC.

This site should help you with this error. Look under installing for your error.

Hi. I have also received the message: "Error 1714.  The older version of Adobe Reader 8.0 cannot be removed.  Contact your technical support group." :smileyindifferent:

 

However, the Windows Update did not solve the problem. I am unable to download pdf's from many sites and many times just attempting to open a pdf will result in a hang-up and the system freezes for that particular site (Ctrl/Alt/Delete must be used to stop program from 'running'). :smileysad:

Any other suggestions?

Thank you for your suggestion; I had already visited your recommended site along with multiple other sites with no good luck - Adobe just doesn't want to leave it's save haven.

 

So, I went back to an earlier post (via Doromachi) suggesting Foxit Reader - By placing this application as the source to recognize and utilze for pdf reading (basically sweeping any lingering Adobe applications underneath the rug), I am now able to open and download pdfs. I'm not sure why I thought I had to rid the computer of all Adobe before even attempting foxit reader, but I'm glad I came to and that the initial recommended posts are still available. Your recommended sites were useful for other areas and I definately appreciate your help!

EasyButton, Glad to hear that you can open pdf's using Foxit Reader. Sorry there was not a workable solution for getting Adobe to work.
