Auto Shutdown
Hi,
My computer is switching off automatically every time i restart it.
I disabled the C:\windows\Drivers.bat and the computer is working, and not switching off. How can i repair it so that i can operate my system running normally.
I have inspiron 510m and the operating system is xp.

- My computer has been shutting off automatically when i restart it.So I have disabled a startup entry in : C:\Windows\Drivers.bat which is located in "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\run" only after disabling it from "msconfig" have i been able to run my computer. Whenever i switch on this entry from the startup programs the computer shuts down immediately after startup.This entry has been on all the time and it is just today that i had this problem.My 90 day mcafee trial version expired today also.I uninstalled the mcafee and reinstalled the 1 year version.I have scanned my computer for antivirus from Mcafee and trend micro and have checked for spyware from microsoft antispyware and other antispyware that i have . Nothing was detected by any of the antivirus and antispyware programs.How can i fix the problem so that i can enable the startup entry as i have stated above so that my computer can run normally again.RegardsNav
What is in the file drivers.bat? Is it something that is needed? Go the folder C:\Windows\ find the file drivers.bat and open it with a text editor. What is running from that file. Note that it is not a file that one normally needs to run Windows.

- Hi,I tried to search for startup.bat and drivers.bat in windows using the window search option and nothing of that file turned up in the search inspite of unhiding the hidden folders before search.Kindly advise how can i search for this file and send you the information you require.RegardsNav
Nav,
Open Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options and click on the View tab. Put a check mark next to "Display the contents of system folders", make sure that "Show hidden files and folders is selected" and remove the check mark in front of "Hide extensions for known file types". Now, using Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder C:\Windows and look for the file named Drivers.bat.

If you are unable to do a System Restore to correct the problem, I suggest you do a repair installation of XP from your CD.Message Edited by oldtraveler on 03-12-2005 09:09 AM
- Hi there,I tried to search the system folders by checking them from the folder options in windows explorer and after unhiding all the files, the only file comming for drivers.bat is "drivers in C:\windows".I am not able to locate the file drivers.bat manually and it is not displaying in the search also.I have tried the system restore also and the system says that it has been sucessfully restored but the problem of autoshut down is still there.Regarding trying from the operating system / driver cd due to the system being bought from dell uk as per their most annoying policy no operating system / driver cd is supplied with the computer. As such i do not have a driver / restore cd with me.Please advise.regardsnav
- Welcome to the real world!!Not everything is what you want. I believe you have not read my earlier posts regarding the operating system cds.I tried like anything to get my hands on the operating cd as uk dell does not supply operating system cd for xp due to their policy.After fighting and complaining to the dell uk company they sent me and operating system cd 1 month after the system was delivered to me. Guess what the operating system cd is for German xp and cannot be operated!!Inspite of being the same company the dell uk is far behind in services and after sales as compaired to US.Regardsnav

To the best of my knowledge Dell supplies an XP reinstallation CD with every pc they sell. Could that be just the U.S.?
