Cant install XP on a Vista machine
XPS 410 that came origonally with Windows Vista cannot install Windows XP. I bought another hard drive that was also a western digital, except its bigger(320 instead of 250). I can boot from the Windows disk and it will start loading files for the setup program where you can select the install partition. It never makes it to the Welcome to Setup screen. I get a blue screen that says inaccessable bootable device STOP: 0x0000007B.
Could the fact that I'm attempting to install Windows XP Home have anything to do with it?
Any help with this would be greatly appreaciated.
Oh, and i have checked all the setting in the BIOS. Drives are properly detected and I have even attempted disabling other items and unplugging them from the motherboard to get this to work. Im stumped :(
- Potential causes of a "Stop 0x0000007B" error message include:The boot volume is corrupted and cannot be initiated by Windows XP. If the file system is corrupted and if Windows XP cannot initiate the boot volume during the startup process, either move the drive to another computer that is running Windows XP and run the chkdsk command on that drive or try to create a parallel installation of Windows XP on the drive (in a separate folder). The Windows XP Setup program checks the integrity of the volume before it copies files, and it may fix some problems in the process.

It worked! That was the missing element I had overlooked. Drive is formatting with the Windows setup as we speak. Thanks!
