I have to use IncrediMail with Vista because the new Windows Mail won't get my hotmail email.
IncrediMail will get my hotmail, but when I click on an attachment and try to forward the attachment, Windows mail will open up and then I have no contacts in my address book.
When I open IncrediMail, it asks if I want to make it the default email, and I click Yes. Then I get an error message that says, "You need to have Administrator or Power User privileges in order to set IncrediMail as your default email client." I AM the administrator!!!
I go to set default programs, but IncrediMail is not even listed as a choice, only Windows Mail.
The Incredimail site says it's not Vista-compatible...have had it for years, and tried to install on Vista...runs the first time, then I close and it won't reopen. Guess I'll have to wait for the Vista version to come out...hopefully, soon! I miss Incredimail...a fantastic email program!
If you get Windows Live Messenger and switch to Windows Live Hotmail you can get instant email notification popups right on your desktop. You don't even have to sign in to it, just let it run at startup. I've used hotmail for 3 years and switched and so far no problems even though it's still beta. Hotmail also can be accessed by clicking on the icon in the taskbar at any time.
My Incredimail runs great in Windows Vista. I don't like using the Windows Live email because when I forward a message with pictures, the pictures come out as a box with an X in it for the recipients. I have tried and tried to find out how to forward the pictures but can't find the answer, so I just use Incredimail with no fuss, no problems. It does what I want it to.
I tried right clicking and "run as administrator" but I still get the same message when I want to make it my default program.
For those of you who can't get Incredimail to run in Vista, have you tried the Help and Support, scroll down to "get your programs to work on this version of windows" and run the Program Compatibility Wizard? I haven't had to use this with Incredimail but had to use it for a program that ran on XP. With the Program Compatibility Wizard, you can tell the computer to use Windows XP settings and it will run the program that wouldn't run in Windows Vista.
You are making this a bigger problem than it is. Webmail was meant for browsers, not OE, Outlook or Live Mail. Just use your browser and you can get any web mail and use the available tools at the webmail's site. Make Hotmail your home page or set up My MSN.com page as your homepage and get your web mail that way. Use your Live Mail program for your ISP's POP mail.

That would be fine if the web mail worked. I can't see or forward pictures in hotmail or msn. In order to view pictures, I have to download them first and even then sometimes they don't show up. If I get an email with pictures in it that I can see, I can't forward them. The recipient gets a box with an X in it. Web mail stinks! How does that get easier?
In IE, what happens if you select Tools>Internet Options>Programs tab and in the Internet Programs section, click on Set Programs, then select Set your default programs? Does IncrediMail appear in the list of programs?

Well, I'm out of ideas. I looked at the IncrediMail site, and according to
this, IncrediMail is NOT currently compatible with Vista. Maybe that's the root of the problem. Perhaps you are going to have to wait for the next release?
