Can't read Partition Magic CD, can't install.

I recently bought a CD of Partition Magic, and it just doesn't register with my CD drive. Sometimes it just continues to endlessly seek, sometimes Windows Explorer says insert a CD into the drive or just shows it as a blank CD, and I returned it. I got two more replacement copies from the same vendor, and they do the same. I looked at them with Roxio Easy CD Creator, and it identifies them as recordable, type Data Mode 2XA, with one track of 655.66MB and 24.89MB of free space.

Anyway, this copy of Partition Magic doesn't autorun the installation from the CD, and Windows Explorer doesnt find any files - just a blank CD or an endless search. Start / Run / D:Autorun doesn't work either.

I found the specs for my drive should support this format, but I'm at a loss. I've tried the CD on three different systems, W98 to WXP and all had the same symptoms. I only spent $14 for the CD and I'm likely to get a refund if necessary, but I wanted any ideas I might try before sending them back.

Thanks, GM

    Hi,

$14 for a full retail package of of the latest version Partition Magic, suspicious to say the least.

Will not auto run, even more suspicious.

What version of Partition Magic is it.

What colour etc is the CD, packaging etc.

    Firebird,

    Precisely my point.

I did once buy a full retail package of Ghost 2003 for £10 from a large computer store. It was also the current version.

I also wanted to look at the price of System Works Pro which included Ghost. When I was looking around I noticed that most Symantec boxes had the security tag price labels showing the correct prices of around £45, but a couple had the wrong price labels.

At the till, the price on the bar code came up correctly at £45.

After a brief conversation with the assistant based arouind, bring me the Manager and could I have his name and hers for my complaint to my Trading Standards, the price charged being that on the box. A good result.

I didn't even get into trouble, when I explained to my wife on getting home, why I had spent money on software when I'd only gone to buy something quite cheap like a cable.

Last time I checked, the (legal) Retail version was around $60.
