Windows is freezing on the wallpaper.  The desktop icons do not appear and the start menu does not work.  The system tray will appear for an instant.  When I enter alt-control-del, hidserv is listed.  The computer continues to be locked up after I select hidserv end task.  At some point, I was going an error message about kern32 but it no longer appears.  I tried following the suggestion in the faq about restoring a prior successful registry, however, it did not work.  I tried to edit the win.ini file but I am not sure what, if anything to delete. Help!
