Computer keeps crashing despite multiple formattings

Hi,

Am posting this under software as am not sure exactly what the issue is. I've had this inspiron 6000 with XP for about 2+ years now with 1 gig ram and a 100 gig HD.

About a month ago I got the BSoD. It was a kernel_stack_inpage_error message. I ignored it and rebooted and continued working. After a while the frequency increased and then one day the system didnt boot. It said that my "software" file had been corrupted. I followed the instructions given in the microsoft help site and restored it from an older version from the registry. one system restore later all was fine. 6 hours later...BAM....BSoD again.

I got fed up and did a full format. Once that was done, I installed all the required drivers. 2 days later BSoD. Same kernel_stack_inpage_error message. Formatted again just to be sure. Crashed again with the same message.

Previous 2 times, when I formatted, there was a 63mb partition which I had left untouched. I had installed XP on the 100 GB main section. But now I blew away the 63MB as well and formatted and reinstalled. It worked fine for about a week then last night...BSod...which said kernel_stack_inpage_error and when I reboot it says my SYSTEM file has been corrupted.

There was nothing new I installed (hardware or software) in the month prior to the first crash.I've run the diagnostic (short and long) which said all was fine and I've run a chkdsk. Am at my wits end now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Am sorry for the long post but I wanted to make sure I explained what happened.

Thanks. I was thinking it could be a corrupted HD...or RAM. Anyways how do I test my hardware? I have run the dell diagnostics. Any other suggestions?
