Dell Update suggests "SupportAssist Update plugin" as new update
Hi - Finally made an account here to vent my issues with my XPS13.
My machine: dell XPS 13 9350
I have "Dell Update" installed and today it suggested me 1 new update: "SupportAssist Update plugin".
Even tho I can't recall having installed "SupportAssist" in the first place.
Can someone please elaborate:
- What this "SupportAssist" does? Is it sending data to Dell?
- Specifically, what is this "Support UPDATE PLUGIN" and why am I even receiving it?
- Can I delete "SupportAssist" and if so : HOW?

I also got this update notification for my XPS 15 today. Thank you for the link for the SupportAssist information - I now understand what the product is.
But some of the OP's questions still remain unanswered:
1. Is it sending data to Dell?
2. Can I delete it?
I do not have SupportAssist installed currently, so I am assuming Dell is pushing this out as a new program (or it is a part of "Dell Customer Connect").
I would like to add a third important question:
3. Does this program allow any sort of remote access to Dell?
Personally, I need this machine to be very secure, so I would like to opt-out of installing this. So if you could please let us know how that would be great.

To answer your questions:

Thank you for the already provided info.
I STILL don't get one thing tho: I didn't have the "SupportAssist" tool installed but I did get an update for it from the Dell Update software.
How can I uninstall the SupportAssist update without it popping up again in the Dell Update tool or is this impossible?

Please type support assist on the search options and see if support assist is already installed in the system.

Hi,
Dell recommends you to enable the Support assist feature on the system as this would keep the system updated with latest drivers update available for your Dell system.
