Yeah, I didn't get a Resouces CD either with my 8400. Some of the drivers are in the download section of the support site -- but not all. Maybe they just put up the drivers that are not found on the Windows OS CD. And there is a c:\DRIVERS directory on my 8400 that has some drivers used in the original install -- I assume.

I was looking for a driver for my NEC DVD +-RW 3450A, and I can't find it anywhere. Not even on the manufacturers site. :-(

Resource CDs are no longer provided with new systems. See this post. I have seen posts which indicated that the necessary drivers are in the C:\Drivers folder on new systems but have not been able to find anything official from Dell stating that this is so.

For the DVD driver check the driver tab for it in Device Manager. It may be using a Windows XP driver.

The only CD/DVD drive "drivers" are the ones built into Windows XP.  That's why you couldn't find any.

    Hey fireberd,
Thanks. So between Windows supplied drivers and what is available in the Downloads section, all the drivers are available. Perfect.

BTW, I'm a Telecaster guy myself but I do like the sound Jerry Garcia used to get out of the steel pedal. :-)

Mike - you should start a new post, in the section applicable to your operating system. Are you using XP? This is the Other Software board, and the original post refers to a missing drivers and utilities CD.

Never mind, I see your other post on the Dimension General Hardware board. Not great, but I see someone is working with you.

Yes, the drivers should be in C:\Dell\Drivers. They will not usually show what they are for, so you'll have to double click on the installer to find out what they are (you should be able to cancel)

Copy the Drivers folder to a CD, or any other safe medium.

In fact, if you want to keep the PC like it was when you got it, get a second Hard drive, and buy Norton Ghost (or similer program). Then you can image the main drive for restoration later.

Now when you buy a Dell, you have to back it up, or lose it all.:(

I learned that when I got my first Dell, but at least I had the resource CD.
