My windows XP doesn't start automatically

My windows XP doesn't want to start automatically, even I have already installed windows XP. Is adding or removing a donggle will cause this, or adding ar removing program will cause this? Because before this is happen I used donggle and it removed, and when I start "windows caouldn't start automatically, maybe it because of hardware or software", Help me please to make my window XP runs automatically??... (btw is DELL has own windows XP because I have installed without DELL' windows XP-if DELL used its own XP...)

I echo Gary's concerns.  My only awareness of a donggle was with a MAC friend of mine who ever after installing it, referred to it as the ****-**** donggle.  I suspect that your native language is not English, so bear with us.

I will say that there is nothing distinct about the Dell version of XP (except that there is no need to activate), so that whatever version of XP you put on your machine (what is the machine?  we need that information, in any case) will not matter.

Can you get into XP at all?  If so, how?

I assume that you have the XP CD.  If you can get into XP, try running, from the Command Prompt, with the CD in the drive, SFC /SCANNOW.  If that does not solve the problem, then boot from the CD; enter the Recovery Console (whatever it may be called in your lingo); run FIXBOOT; then, run FIXMBR.  Whatever your donggle was, it may have messed with the boot record (FIXBOOT) or with the Master Boot Record (FIXMBR).  If that does not help, boot from the CD again and try a Repair Re-install (do NOT enter the Recovery Console; proceed through the screens until you are offered the option of "Repair an existing installation of Windows"; select that and proceed).

If that does not solve the problem, then you will have to do a "clean" install; as before boot from the CD, proceed through the screens; when offered the opportunity to do a New Install, select that and then check the box which allows you to format the installation drive.  You will lose EVERYTHING on the drive, so if you can get into XP at all, backup whatever data you wish to preserve BEFORE doing the clean install.

    Hi Bill,

I have tried the Recovery Console, run FIXBOOT; then, run FIXMBR, also tried a Repair Re-install, but didn't work either. So at last I back-up all my important files and then I did a New Install, and everything runs good, my XP could start (boot) automatically

    Thanks,
