I need to move my OE6 email messages and address book from my Sony to my new Dell laptop. Both have OE6. I've tried and tried to export on a CD-R, etc. with no luck. Dell is no help. I am using a Speedstream router - old machine is hard wired and the Dell is wireless. Can someone please point me to the steps.
Thank you. Unfortunately I had already tried that and it doesn't work. Maybe I'm leaving out a vital step. I get a message of 'Access denied' when I try to import.
Perhaps my disk is not the right kind. It says 'cd-r.'
Hi - I'm not sure this will work for you but it did for me. Export what you want from OE to a CD-R. Load this CD to the new Dell laptop and copy the contents to a file (I copy to the Desktop). After its copied right click on the OE file you copied and go into Properties and uncheck the "Read Only" Attribute. Now the OE contents can be imported, I think.
Thank you Beatrice57. In fact, in desperation and while brainstorming what to do, I finally had tried just what you suggest, which I NEVER read anywhere on any site about moving my messages and addy book. Copying to the desktop was the secret. The very next day, Dell called me to see how I liked my new Inspiron 1000 (of which I had bought two), and he received a piece of my mind. It is absolutely ridiculous that such an ordinary task that many, many buyers will want to accomplish is made so totally mysterious and imcomprehensible and is not supported for free by Dell and Microsoft.
You're welcome. And Importing/Exporting from Outlook 2000 is even more of a mystery. You'd think that Dell would know about this solution and that Microsoft would come up with something a little less complicated. Glad things worked out.
