For "Joe Q" average user, the delay is no big deal. However for those us in an Enterprise setting who have to patch newly built machines, this will save a lot of time instead of having to build all these patches into a new build.
Hopefully, this has been worth the wait. I also read where a bug in the SP has already been patched.
Will this come out on disk for those of us that have dialup? I couldnt download SP2 and I imagine sp3 will be even larger if all service packs are on it. Thanks
Honestly, I cannot see Microsoft going to the expense fo cerating discs for this SP. Two things come to mind, first the cost and secondly the life expectancy of the OS.
Is there no DSL service in your area? MOst of the low end DSL packages are as cheap or cheper than any dialup service.

True, but there are many parts of the country (at least in Canada), even within well populated municipalities, where DSL or Cable service is simply not available. Rural areas in particular suffer from this unavailability.
XPSP3 is a true Service Pack and will not have the major GUI updates that SP2 did. There will be some minor "under the hood" tweaking but I fail to see why anyone should be concerned with driver issues for this release.
This is really nothing more than a rollup of all security patches since SP2.
Is Dell ready for Windows XP service pack 3? and have drivers update to.

Rebel9 You hit the nail right on the head! I live in rural Maine and have no access to any form of high speed internet or I would have it at any cost. I suppose I could have someone download it for me that does have broadband. Would there be any issues doing this? Thanks
