I do not own a full version of XP but do have a Win 2000 CD, and I need to get Windows on my Mini 9. Has anyone done this successfully? Better to use an external CD drive or a Network Install? I found only one post here from last year who appears to have been unsuccessful with Win 2000.
Got it. I had a feeling that might be the problem. But then I heard some people talking here about booting from a usb flash drive so I thought I would give it a try.
If the ISO was made from a Windows XP boot CD, AND you write it using the "write image" feature of your CD writer software, the result will be a bootable CD. Note: you MUST use a CD writing package to write the image - you CANNOT simply write the ISO file to the CD; it will not be bootable.
Ok, I now have a WinXP-Pro ISO image to use. I copied it to a usb flash drive but could not boot from it: "missing operating system". What is the best way to utilize this ISO image of the XP install CD? Should I burn a CD? Will that boot?

Thanks for any advice.

So, your Mini 9 didn't come with Windows XP but want help with installing an illegal copy on your Mini 9?

No. I ordered my Mini9 with Ubuntu which is an operating system that is superior to Windows-anything in all respects. However, I need to prepare the Mini9 for a Webinar I am doing next week, that will require Windows XX. Not by choice. The "copy" of WinXP I am using is mine. The original CD stopped working years ago and I have had to reinstall from this image more than 2 or 3 times. A big thanks to Microsoft there. The machine I originally installed WinXP on has long since been retired and recycled. (Recycled for electronics parts.) So by installing this WinXP on the Mini9, it will be the only copy being used. Thanks for asking.
And btw, do you really have nothing better to do than police the Web for illegal use of Windows?

It is against the TOS of this Dell message board to participate in discussion of illegal activity. And until your lengthy explanation that appeared to be the type of question you were asking.

jsafire,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Dell does not have any Win 2000 drivers for the Mini 9 system.
If you have access to an external usb cd/dvd player I would use it to install.
