Windows XP Media Center 2005 Install Problem

I have now intalled on my Dimension 9150 Windows XP Home Edition SP2. I bought a couple of days before a Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition and I tried to install it on my comp. When I booted the comp and started the setup process I got stucked at the scrren where windows setup asks me to select the Partition on which i want to install windows. The problem is that i dont have any partiton to select, MY HDD DOES NOT FIGURE in the list. I dont know what to do in order to install my WinXP MC2005. I think is a driver problem but i dont know exactlu what to do.
Thanks for your time.

You will need a floppy drive installed in your 9150 to reinstall windows from a non Dell cd.

Go here and download R130118.exe    these are your sata drivers
< ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

Now you can execute this file (it just extracts the files to a directory, make note of where) or uncompress it with winzip or winrar, now copy all the extracted files to a floppy disc. When you boot from the Media center CD start tapping F6 to load third party drivers, setup will ask for the floppy disc in A drive, later in the set up. Now setup will see the drive.

Does Safe Mode work? if so go to my computer properties Advanced tab and then startup and recovery settings, and untick Automatically restart in the system failure section. See if you get an error message the next time you boot normally. Also check the root of the system drive to see if it left a log or dump file.

You will need to do one of three things:

    Get a USB floppy drive

Put the drivers on a USB thumb drive

Or slipstream those drivers into the OS disc.

All of the above will work.

Windows Restarted after 2-3 seconds after the "Windows XP" screen appeared. In safe mode the same thing happened, windows started loading some drivers and then restarted.

USB Storage drive didn't work. Windows keeps asking for a Drive A.

When i slipstream: I copy the entire extracted driver pack into $OEM$\$ 1\drivers\ SATA folder on my CD.
    I Copy iastor.sys in I386 and i declare the PCI\ VEN strings to TXTSETUP under [ HardwareIdsDatabase], then under [ SourceDisksFiles] i declare iastor.sys = 1,,,,,,_x,4, 1 then under [ SCSI.Load] i declare iastor = iastor.sys,4 and finally under [SCSI] i write iastor = “ SATA driver”.
Also in the winnt.sif file among other strings i wrote OemPnPDriversPath=drivers\ SATA

By doing this my driver still doesn't work. I Added some new files that i found on the Dell Home Edition XP CD which are: a320raid.sys, aac.sys, aarich.sys, and also the famous iastor.sys. With them in the [ SourceDisksFiles] section of the TXTSETUP.SIF file i have declared also the .cat and . inf of this files and have copied them in the I386 directory of the CD because this was done in the Dell XP CD. In this form setup recognized the drive but the restart problem accrued.

What do you think is wrong?

    Thanks Again

I know there is a way to make a thumb drive bootable so it has to be in the BIOS to make the A drive see the tumb drive.

Check msfn.org for a detailed how to on the slipstream.

I don;t think it is in the sif file.

I have no idea about how to configure the bios in order to make it reachebel by the win setup. Anyway, i slipstreamed another time the drivers, in the way that was explained in the unattended.msfn.org  and i get an error when the "graphical" setup of windows starts, the part after the restart of the computer. I just get an Fatal Error mesage stating : "Fatal Error: Internal Setup data structures are corrupted (phase 0)." Any idea whats wrong?
    Also the setuplog.txt  contains:

Are you willing to spend $20 on a USB floppy drive?

:smileyhappy: I don't think so. I resolved the Fatal Error thing. I fixed it with this two simple lines:
    [Data]
       MsDosInitiated=No
Now windows installs perfectly. Thanks anyway.
    Take care.
