I did not recieve a reboot disk when i bought my computer from rent a center. i contacted them and they said that they could not help me. they told me that i had to contact dell. is there anyone that can help a desperate soul who does not know that much about computers?
the XP cd is bootable place the cd in the drive and reboot the system, you might want to check the bios settings to insure that the boot sequence is correct to allow this
You were supposed to since the operating system stays with the computer. If you can't get it from the seller, you'll have to purchase a retail cd. The Upgrade Win XP cd will work to save you a few $$.
PS As long as you have the activation key, which should be posted on the side of the computer--it's normally also on the case the cd comes in--you can borrow an XP disk and make a copy to use. That's allowed.
Thanks folks for the advice but I think that rent a center are going to make good on it. They said they are going to burn me one and send it out in the mail Monday. I just hope that it gets here before they send me to Germany.
I wouldn't be satisfied with a "burned-by-someone" version. How would you be sure it works on your system before having put it to a test?
You did not give details about your system and when you purchased it, but I have read that there was a time where Dell was (still is?) applying "no-media-politics". That means that no CDs were supplied with the system, but that there would be a possibility on your system to burn the CDs yourself.
