I installed a Star Wars theme on my new Dell at work using some theme software, but a few days ago when I went to change theme back to the default, the startup logo did not change. At this point, I'd be thrilled just to have the regular XP logo back.
I can't think what my boss will say if he walks in while it's booting and sees a clonetrooper waving a blaster at him...
How can I get the XP startup logo back (you know, the one with the blue bar)?
Try doing a System Restore to a date before you installed those space invaders.
Click Start>help&support
Click "undo changes..."
Select a date before that installation and follow the prompts. You will have to reinstall any new software and Microsoft updates that were installed after the date you picked from the calendar, but your personal files and settings should be OK. Amd you can always undo the Restore if necessary.
I had the same thing happen some years ago, but I just can't remember the solution. Sorry. You may want to search the registry for any remnants of the program. Don't know what else to tell you. Good luck. Have you tried posting this problem on a Windows message board?
Maybe you can find some help here:

Hope that the space invaders backed up your ntoskrnl.exe file.
Or, maybe try running a system file check to see if it will restore the file
click start>run
type in: sfc /scannow
(put a space between sfc and /)
click OK
This will take a while and may ask for your XP Installation CD.
Solved!
Even though there was NO documentation in the theme about it's creator (shame shame), I installed it again and during the install process, saw that it was made by TopThemes. I contacted them, they told me to install their theme manager and set the logos to default. I did, and it worked.
