XPS 8700, BIOS update, STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE issue

I noticed my compute went to sleep mode but when I wake it up,  it rebooted itself.   I also noticed there is a yellow exclamation mark beside IMEI device with an error   STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE (code 10).

I noticed this issue after I upgraded te h BIOS from A12 to A13.

Can anyone tell me if I can downgrade the BIOS upgrade back to A12 ?

Just want to let you know after a week of monitoring,  my XPS 8700 is working as expected.  I am no longer having this IMEI error.  I will close this thread as "problem resolved".

What is your PC Model Number?   Always include that on any initial problem post..  Too many different Dell models.

Are you able to reboot and get PC to load the Windows desktop correctly? And when you wake from sleep, does it still give you the same error message?

Do you have a cell phone, tablet or other mobile (IMEI) device paired to this PC? Try unpairing that device and reboot. Then confirm the PC wakes from sleep correctly. Then try re-pairing the device to the PC and see what happens when you wake from sleep now.

I am able to reboot the PC and Windows desktop was able to load correctly.  No error when I reboot the PC.   When I wake up the PC from sleep mode,  I am still able to see this IMEI  (Intel Management Engine Interface) device error.  I don't have any other devices paired to the PC.

It doesn't matter what I do,   this error with IMEI doesn't seem to go away.

I believe this problem started to happen after I upgraded the BIOS from A12 to A13 for my XPS 8700 desktop PC.   I want to see if I can downgrade the BIOS version back to A12.

Version of Windows? It is being fully updated via Windows Update?

Log in with an account that has Administrator privileges. Open Device Manager and expand the list under System Devices. Find the Management Engine entry on the list and right-click to UNINSTALL it. Confirm the uninstall when prompted.

Now reboot. Windows should reinstall the latest version...

I didn't exactly with your instructions.  After reboot, I did see the yellow exclamation mark went away because the IMEI device.  However,   after a few minutes, it came back again and the whole cycle of the same issue all over again.

Don't understand the first sentence in your last post. Did you uninstall ME in Device Manager?

    Read this thread:

https://www.dell.com/community/Desktops-General-Read-Only/Intel-Management-Engine-Interface-Problem/td-p/4703639 and follow the link to the Microsoft site.

Are you running Dell Support Assist or Dell Update in the background? Disable them, and then uninstall ME again.

ME isn't really needed on a home PC.

Yes.  I am running Dell Support Assist or Dell Update in the background.   I will disable and uninstall ME.

I think I did that once (by disabling IMEI).  From what I can remember,  after I rebooted my desktop,  this component re-enabled itself again.   I could try again and see if it will come back again this time.

However,  before I do that,  I will follow the link to clear the BIOS and see if I will permanently fix the issue.

Question. what is the reason to disable these background running tasks ?

Those background apps monitor your PC and can install updates. So if ME is missing because you uninstalled it, SupportAssist might automatically reinstall it. That could explain why the yellow ! in Device Manager went away and then came back a few min later.

You might want to uninstall SupportAssist rather than just disabling it, to make sure it doesn't come back. You don't really need it because you can always update drivers manually on your own. And you can always download SupportAssist again, for free, from Dell's support site, if you decide you want it...
