Is there any way to get an answer on whether or not Windows Update is going to keep updating the BIOS on Dell desktops? Can someone at Dell answer this? Or are we going to have to go through this several times a year?

Maybe they are hoping for several thousand bricked motherboards.

I don't think Microsoft is updating the BIOS on Dell desktops through Windows Update on their own, Dell must approve this because how would Microsoft get the firmware. I don't know why the XPS 8930 seems to be the most favorite target for these updates.

Be sure to check your BIOS settings -again- after updating to v1.1.19.

On my XPS 8930, the options for automatic BIOS recovery and integrity check were disabled after this latest update, even though I had enabled them in v1.1.18. 

I wish these BIOS updates would stop changing user configured settings. If the user changed a setting from its default, the update should not reset them, unless, of course, the change is essential for proper installation of the update and/or is required for proper function of the update...

Are we talking about a BIOS Update showing on the Dell Web-Site or showing up on the Windows-Update?

The original Post mentions that he can only see it when he limits his Search using his specific System Tag - wouldn't this suggest that he is using the Dell Web-Site?

Yet a lot of the comments seem to be discussing Widows-Updates!

Have to be honest & say that I'm confused!!!

@John-Jay The original post mentions both the Dell website and Windows Update. The Windows Update version adds a zero in front of the version number. The issue is that Windows Update is updating the BIOS in the XPS 8930. It has happened in version 1.1.18 and now appears to happen with version 1.1.19 also. For some users, it also appears that if they update the BIOS via a Dell website download, Windows Update will update it again. The Windows update can be seen in the 'View pdate history'.

This is from the Dell Website using my service tag only. And I accepted the wrong reply as Solution.

I didn't have to use my Service Tag to see BIOS v1.1.19 listed on the XPS 8930 Support page.

It typically takes a while after Dell posts an update on its support site before that update gets offered (pushed) by Windows Update. So it may be end of this month or later before it's available via WU. 

IMO, that seems to make some sense. If a BIOS update downloaded directly from Dell 's support site fails and bricks a few motherboards, they would still have time to react before WU forces a defective BIOS update on thousands of unsuspecting XPS 8930 users...

And I forget to mention that BIOS 1.1.19 enables Capsule Updates even if the user disabled it in whatever version was already running. Not that disabling Capsule Updates seems to do anything to stop WU from pushing the same update...

I don't want Windows Update messing with the BIOS at all! There is too much chance for a disaster, and it is only a matter of time before something goes wrong. Why can't someone get in touch with Dell and get some kind of answer on this?

Be assured that I've asked these questions several times but haven't gotten a response...
