XPS 15 9550, memory upgrade

Can the XPS 15 (9550), be upgraded from the factory installed 8GB to 16GB?

If so, should I just add a second 8GB chip or replace the existing one with a 16GB chip?

Thanks.....Ron

Memory for XPS 15 9550 is dual channel, I believe - slots should match in capacity and speed.  If you look in the BIOS under System Information under DIMM A and DIMM B Size you can see what you've got without opening the case.  Likely, you have 2 x 4GB sticks.  For 16GB you'd need 2 x 8GB sticks.  Official max RAM is 2 x 16GB.

    I do have 2 - 4 GB chips.

Can I just remove the two 4's and replace with two 8 GB chips?

Will the computer find them and update accordingly, or do I need to do something else to make the change?

    Thanks.....Ron

you know some certified brand that has 16gbx2, I have tested 3 brands but they do not work together, only an old memory of 8GB and a new one of 16 GB, but both of 16 GB gives an error.
