I received a similar call Saturday afternoon from 8006249896 The guy sounded like he was from Dell and was very convincing. He wanted to give me my service tag number to prove he was from Dell. I said there is NO WAY I am giving you this information and hung up on him. When I called the number back, it appeared to be from DELL and they of course asked for my service tag. So I hung up again. If Dell has had a security breach they need to AT LEAST tell their customers. I am rethinking any future Dell purchase at this point
These days it's fairly easy for scammers to spoof Caller ID so it shows a number that might actually belong to the company they falsely claim to represent. So calling that number back doesn't prove the guy who called was actually from Dell.
Next time they call, let them give you the Service Tag so you know if they actually have it (and report that to Dell), but then say that's not your Service Tag...and hang up. :emotion-5:
* This is under investigation by our Dell Legal team * At the top of this Care board, click the tab, "Customer Care - Wiki" * On the right under the "Table of Contents", open, "3rd party entities posing as Dell Technical Support"
