Background noises from fan and computer case is very obvious when recording sound on my Inspiron 9100 - and I'm not talking about when using the internal microphone (where lots of noise is to be expected), but also when using an external, high-quality microphone. Is it meant to be this way? The noise level is so high it really makes the computer useless for recording. My old 8200 was completely quiet with the same recording quipment.

Any hints on how to solve this problem without buying an external recording device will be very much appreciated.

All BIOS and drivers are updated.
