Some video cards now have HDMI 1.4 that will do higher resolutons.

AMD 6xxx did not support 1.4 (HD6990 has no HDMI native IO)

AMD 7xxx/8xxx do support 1.4, but (per the specification), not all the cards are listed to support 1920x1080
- HD7870, HD7950, HD8870, HD8950 all list 4096x2160 as the max resolution over HDMI
- HD7770, HD6950, HD6870 all list 1920x1080 as the max resolution over HDMI

Nvidia lists support for 1.4 back to the 5xx cards and for 6xx cards, except for GTX555
-GTX660, GTX670, GTX680 all list 4096x2160 as the max resolution over HDMI
- GTX590/GTX690 have no native HDMI IO
- I did not do GTX580, so I have no direct specification, but presume it does not support this high resolution
- All other GTX5xx cards only list 1920x1080 as the max resolution

To get back to the origin of the thread / problem: "All other GTX5xx cards only list 1920x1080 as the max resolution". When I first plugged in the monitor that was a big disappointment. I check before hand that I had HDMI on both sides, so I expected 2560 to be listed. It took me a week of trial and error to get to the 2560x1600 32bit 48Hz I'm running on now. This is not a good process for people buying such a pricy monitor and should be optimized. What could be the reason the cards list 1920 as the maximum resolution? It could be that the driver only requests / shows 32bit 60Hz resolutions from the monitor. At least newer cards do show the higher resolutions. But why in the world would it show 4096? That's too high for the U3014!

The real moral of the story is IMHO; don't believe the manufacturer when he says "that won't work".

Unable to get the full resolution on HDMI @60 hz, 32 bit, no matter which setting I choose.. Using a Quadro K5000M on a Dell system. The DIsplayPort on this computer is right where I place my mouse... and the DisplayPort cable keeps getting in the way of mouse movement. Was hoping to go the HDMI way to avoid this problem.. Will a HDMI-to-DisplayPort converter do the job?

Dunno. But you could also try 48Hz instead of 60. It was quite acceptable.

I have a Dell Latitude notebook w/ Win 7 and with integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000, and I had no luck creating a custom 2560 x 1600 setting using any of the steps suggested here. However, I did find another page that explains how to create 2560 x 1440 at 55 hz /32-bit setting using CVT-RB" (Reduced Blank) as the Timing Standard.

It's old, I know. But I just faced this problem.

I want to use the HDMI socket of the U3014 monitor (the other sockets are occupied by cables from other computers). My graphic card (nvidia GTX 950) has a HDMI 2.0 socket. I have bought a HDMI 2.0 cable and it doesn't work.

With the hacks of Gilahacker I see a 2560x1600 resolution, but of a bad quality.

Why the doesn't HDMI work out of the box? Dell specified it with HDMI1.4 for that model, what definitely must be able to do 2560x1600!

Notice the wording in the Manual, "may only support up to 2560 x 1600". That is not stating that you will get 2560 x 1600. It is stating you could get any resolution up to 2560 x 1600 or 2560 x 1600, depending on your graphics card and the its driver.

I've used a standard HDMI cable. Then I entered the Nvidia tool and created a custom resolution (because the monitor does not list what it can do over HDMI). Not all settings work, but what does work is:
- 2560x1600, 16 bit, 60Hz
- 2560x1600, 32 bit, 24Hz
- 2560x1600, 32 bit, 36Hz MacBook Pro Retina
I'm not seeing any flicking @24Hz so I'm leaving it at that for now. According to the 1.3 specification, it should be able to do 24 or 30 bit at 60Hz, and 1.4 even more. But I can't configure that. I need to pick that up with Nvidia.
