Sorry to necro this thread, but it speaks directly to my issue.  I too have a 2850 in which I've invested a lot of time and money and would like to solve this problem (no VT) with this device.  I note that the Intel Xeon 7120m dual core processor is a Socket 604 processor with an 800Mhz FSB, meaning it's at least plug-compatible.  It supports VT-x.  The question is, if I dropped the 7120m into my 2850, could I get a BIOS that would allow enabling the VT technology?
