5100cn custom paper sizes

Can anyone help?

For some reason I cannot select a custom paper size.
I am trying to print on 4 X 6 inch photo paper, so it is within specs.
In the page size drop down menu, I have 20 custom size options, but they are all 210 x 297 mm.
Is this normal?

Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

(this works on my 3100cn which experienced the same problem as your 5100cn - so I suspect the solution will be the same)

Yes, this is in fact very common.  I don't know why it is so difficult and confusing to figure out how to set custom paper sizes, but it is not at all documented.  I called Dell Tech Support and they couldn't tell me how to do it.  Alas, there is a solution.  I'm guessing Dell just never bothered to test custom sizes even though they clearly say that you can use custom sizes in the MPF tray.

    Well, here's the solution.

    1) Go to the Printers & Faxes 'control panel' (either found via the 'control panel' link on your 'start' menu or may appear directly on the right half of your 'start' menu unless you're in classic view)

    2) Right click on your 5100cn or your 3100cn and choose 'properties' at the very bottom of the list  - NOT 'printing preferences'

    3) Click on the 'configuration' tab

    4) Locate and click on the 'secret' "Custom Paper Size..." buttom at the bottom of the dialog box (above 'ok' and 'cancel').

    5) Highlight the first Custom field, then specify the size and assign a name (don't worry about including the size in the name - the size will appear next to the name on the list).

    6) Click on the 'OK' button.

    7) Now, from within your application, choose "Page Setup" and your custom size should appear on the list.  Choose it.

    8) Not sure if you have to do this extra step, but I did:
    9) Choose "Print" from within your application and when the "Print" dialog box appears, click on "Properties".

    10) Click on the "Paper Tray" tab at the top of the dialog box and then change the "Paper Source:" drop down list to MPF.

    11) Next, click on the "Paper" tab at the top of the dialog box and then change the "Pap er Size:" drop down list to your custom paper size.
    12) Print away!

This does not work on Windows 7. The Printer Properties → Configuration "Custom Paper Size…" dialog box is grayed out as shown below…

    Now what?
