As suggested by Bell Boy, I am going to post this question again:
I am having problems printing certain colors on our Dell 3115cn printer: for example, our logo uses a Pantone 658 color which can be rendered on screen pretty well in Illustrator, Word, etc. (R 167 G 193 B 227).
During printing, however, the story much more complex. If I print with the PCL drivers I get a horrible electric blue color. Of course, printing from Illustrator I can use the PS driver which gives pretty good results, but I can't do the same from Word (unless I first print to a PDF file and then print the file with the PS driver).
Is there some way to "copy" the PS color profile to the PCL driver? How would you calibrate the printer? Any suggestion is welcome, thank you.
Note: computers are running Vista Ultimate and Business 64 bits, Illustrator CS4 and Word 2007.
You are facing a problem many folks face when they purchase a COLOR laser printer. Most (probably all) off the shelf color laser printers are NOT Pantone compliant and it can be tough getting your colors to appear on the printer correctly...... in others words, it's not WYSIWYG. Color outputs will also vary by manufacturer. None of the Dell Color laser printer are Pantone compliant.
When you buy a color laser that is Pantone compliant, plan on spending a LOT MORE MONEY for the unit.
That all said...... you can adjust the color outputs by opening the Printer Preferences, selecting the Graphics tab, and clicking the Image Settings and/or Color Balance button(s).
Be careful..... If you mess it up too bad, take note of the Restore Defaults button in practically every screen. Clicking this button will get you back to factory settings. Good luck !!
Thank you for your reply. After manually tweaking with the image settings for a day, I am seriously considering purchasing a Spyder or ColorMunki calibration tool. Do you have experience with any of the two? Do you have any recommendation?
I don't think we need a pantone compliant printer, for the moment, but a slightly better output would be appreciated.
The funky thing is that the PS driver output is totally acceptable.

Sorry..... no experience with either of those tools you mention. Be sure to check out the companies "return policy" :emotion-40:
