:smileysad:
I need some real assistance on how to add a new hard drive to my D-3000. My old computer has a hard drive with valuable informatio and all I've been asking Dell outsourcing reps is how to add the old hard drive to the new one. I have not received a decent reilable response yet. One outsourcing rep said there was no room for adding a hard drive. Thats not tru, I opened the case and saw where there is room; all U need is a bracket (which is not available through Dell), and the part I need the most clairity on is, if I need a special diac or floppy to merger the two discs? Anybody have a clue as to what I can Do? Pleas get back to me ASAP! Thanks my chat friends.
If the new one is a budget model (Dimension 2400, 3000), you CAN order a bracket to permanently mount the drive in the new system, from Dell.
If it's a small format chassis like the 4600C, there's no space for a second drive at all.
In either situation, you can attach a dual-drive cable and simply jumper the old drive as cable select and connect it. Enable it in BIOS setup and you can boot and copy what you need, and then reverse the process to remove the drive.
Thanks for the info:smileywink:. But do you mean I can't operate with both disc and have 80gigs instead of 40? Or can I attach the other hard drive and it will configure itself on the concept of; slave and master? Do I need a ghost floppy to unite the two? what is BOIS? You seem to have been through this? I have a Dimension 3000, 2.8ghz, 256mb. I just want to upgrade before I actually start using the D-3000. I am presently using a pent II, that is souped up! If you can tell me the part number for the bracket or how to do an effective search for it I would be much appreciative! Thanks for the support!
