transfering data fron old computer
I just got new dell dimension 2400 and I am having a heck of a time transfering some stuff from my old computer. I copied pics and little programs to a cd-r and they will not appear on the disk when I put it in my dell disk drive. Only 1 zip file shows up. But I know there is more on the disk, I've checked on another computer. There are only simple items on the disk such as jpeg's. How do I get these to show up on my dell?

- I just bought a new computer and I also need to transfer data from the old computer to the new one. The problem is that my old computer does not have a burner and my new computer does not have a floppy drive. Is there a qucik and painless way to accomplish this? Thanks for your help!

The best way to transfer data (not programs) to a new PC is to burn a "data" CD-R with the user data you want from the old PC. By doing a "Data Project" (Roxio's term for creating a data CD) you can copy whatever files you want and it also finalizes the CD-R so it can be read in any CD-ROM. You can then take the CD to the new PC and copy the user files to the new PC's hard drive in whatever folders you want. Keep the burned CD-R as backup for when you have to reinstall everything on the new PC.
A note on programs. Most programs cannot be copied to another PC's hard drive. Most programs need to be "installed" from the programs installation program (and/or CD). There are some exceptions but 99% must be installed. Also there is an issue of program compatibility, some older programs (and especially DOS and games) are not Windows XP compatible.
