Log looks OK.  Try the RootKit Revealer

    http://www.sysinternals.com/utilities/rootkitrevealer.html

and see if it finds anything.

Then check that your IDE Controller is not using PIO for the primary.

open Device Manager as follows. Right-click on My Computer, select Properties, click on the Hardware tag, click on the Device Manager button, click on the plus sign to the left of IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller, right-click on Primary IDE Channel and select Properties.  THen Advanced Settings and look for Current Transfer Mode under device 0.  It should be Ultra DMA  if it says PIO you need to uninstall the contrroller and reboot.

Close all programs, right click on the clock and select Task manager then Processes then click twice on CPU.  This should sort them by the biggest users of CPU time.  If System Idle is not the top one with 95% or more then what are the top three and their %?

Any shortage of memory or harddrive space?  Any mapped network drives that are not responding.  Is RPC working?

Start, Run, cmd, OK and type:
    net start

    in the output look for:

    Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

If you don't find it then that's your problem.

You can also check the event logs from the cmd screen type:

    eventvwr.msc
then look under System and see if you have any red marks since your latest boot.  Open them and copy them to the clipboard by pressing the bottom of the three buttons.  Then move to a reply and Edit Paste.
