Explorer shuts down

When I have multiple windows open, if I close just one window, internet explorer shut down completely. And gives me an error message. I have a dell inspiron  1100 with windows XP.

    Perform this maintenance   http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
     
    Then go to Tools/Internet Optons/Advanced Tab/
     
    Untick "enable third party browser extensions"
     
    Tick "empty temp internet files folder when browser is closed"
     
    Hit OK.
     
    If this does not solve the issue, do some more reading here
