Re installing the OS after hardware changes

I want to replace my motherboard so that i can get a PCI express slot but i was told by someone that my OS will be locked to the BIOS of the pc so if i replace the motherboard i lose the OS :( Is this likely to happen? If so how can i ask dell for a Home instillation CD? because i did not receive one with my PC, technically i have paid for the OS with my PC so surely i should be allowed the installation CD??? Where will i get the instillation Code from????

    1.  If you look at the pinned topics above, you will find on that tells you how to get Win XP disks.
    2.  But I don't believe that will help you.  Changing from a Dell motherboard to a non-Dell motherboard makes your PC no longer a Dell PC and I believe Dell OEM disks will not work on a non-Dell PCs.

    Non-Dell motherboards will not fit without extreme modifications.

    Cheaper (read less hassle) to buy a barebones case) but eitherway you will need a new copy of XP.
