I suspect your boot.ini file requires editing. R\click My Computer>l\click properties>Advanced>Startup & Recovery>Settings>Edit. Post a copy of the file

It's that easy, assuming that your system is booting from the first listed version of Windows XP that is displayed at bootup.

I'm just curious. When you did the reinstall of XP did you delete the c: drive and create a new partition?

It's not clear where it comes from, but the same thing happened on my system with a clean install of XP. Deleted the second phantom instance of XP in boot.ini and all was well.

Before I reinstalled Windows, my C drive had two partitions.  One main one (large) and one quite small that apparently Dell created and put some diagnostics, etc. on.  From other input I have received, this small partition was initially hidden, however installing Roxio brings it to light?  I don't know. 

Before reinstallation, there were two partition on my C drive.  I had to delete both of them before I could proceed.

Now my C drive is one drive (so far as I can tell) and that's what I wanted.

But this dual o/s - don't know where that came from.
