Saving images from DVD's

I have a Dimension E310 ( 1 yr. old), with Win XP as OS.  My question is........Can I capture still pictures or scenes to my comp from a DVD, or do I need to buy something else to do this.  I'm fairly new to this stuff.  Thank You.
