If I copy from another application, say Notepad, prior to having Word open, the content of the copy is not available for pasting into Word. If I open Word first, then copy from Notepad, the contents of the copy are available to paste in Word. However copy contents are available for pasting in Excel whether opened before or after the copy from other application is done.
Is there anyway to fix this so copy contents will be available for pasting in Word even if wasn't open at the time the copy was taken from the other application. I know this must be posible because my system at work does.

If you had Microsoft Works installed on your computer this problem would be caused by the Word in Works Suite Add-in, which clears the clipboard when Word is opened, but you say you have Office and this is not a part of the Office suite.
If you ever had Works installed on your computer, you can remove the troublesome add-in using the instructions at the bottom of
here.
