17 R4, Samsung 970 Pro NVMe, Windows installation issues

Hi,

I have an Alienware 17 R4 and I have installed Samsun 970 Pro NVME.

I have also migrated the whole C drive to the New NVMe but windows now shows in both NVMe and ssd. So when I boot up the computer I need to always press f12 and select the NVME drive to boot up my PC.

I tried reinstalling windows 10 on NVME but during installation I fails and the bios don't show Samsung NVMe so i have to then go to Disk Management and had to enable the NVMe disk.

I am again planning to clean install windows 10 on my system can someone from the community help me with this issue.

I am attaching a picture of Disk Management and I don't know if I am doing something wrong in the setting.

Also if any other information is required please do let me know.

For information in the picture Disk 0 is SSD and Disk1 is Samsung 970 pro 1tb

Thanks

Hi @DharamKapadia thank you for sharing the Disk Management image.

Please unplug ac adapter, remove the rear panel and disconnect battery, remove storage drive, reconnect main battery, replace rear panel without securing screws, and then start the system.

You should get a normal boot and the splash screen will appear to give the normal log on into the Windows operating system. Then Shut Down the system.

Please unplug ac adapter, remove the rear panel, disconnect battery, install storage drive, reconnect main battery, replace rear panel, and then start the system.

Your boot problem will return and the requirement to press F12.

Open Disk Management and check Disk designation for (D:) storage. Be sure to work on only on (D:), and delete both the EFI and the Recovery partitions.  Wait for these changes to be confirmed. Then Shut Down the system and wait a few minutes.

Start the system, you should get a normal boot and the splash screen will appear to give the normal log on into the Windows operating system. Visit SupportAssist, hover over the cog wheel icon in top right corner and open 'About SupportAssist'. Click on prompts to update SupportAssist if you are not running the latest version. Open Task Manager and wait for CPU usage to to have a low value. Resume your use of this system.

Remember to reinstall the rear cover's securing screws after next Shut Down.

Please share an update. Thank you.

If you are going to clean install windows on the Nvme then I suggest you temporarily disconnect the ssd before you start the install.

Just backup your data to an external drive and then reinstall windows using the media creation tool and select the SSD1 which is the Samsung and let it install. Then when its finished, connect the external drive and then highlight all the items you want copied and then right click the mouse and click the option that says copy. then go to the C: drive tab which is that Samsung SSD and right click to paste. Then it should be finished.

Quick Tip: If your laptop has voltage / charging issues, try shutting it down, unplugging power from laptop, hold power button down for 30 seconds to do a full reset!

Hi @DharamKapadia  thank you for telling other users that you have accepted my post as your solution. However, you continue to be unhappy that this unpaid user responded to your thread, and you did not give Kudos as a thank you.
