m15 R5, charging while playing
Is it ok to charge and play on my Alienware M15 R5 Ryzen Edition base model at 100%, because I'm worried that it will harm my battery?
Hi @My_Striking welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.
When laptop not mobile and stationary, being used at home, work, hotel, etc., the laptop should be powered by ac adapter (charger). If playing graphic intensive games, the M15 laptop series is designed to get extra power from the battery, see Alienware 15 R3/15 R4/17 R4/17 R5/M15/M17 performance issue or battery drain while AC adapter is connected | Dell US.
Some modern graphic intensive games or applications are not good to play on your system. Check specification of what individual game or application say about the minimum system requirements.

So is it safe to use it when charging at 100%? And also when not charging the battery does not help the laptop to get the performance that its supposed to get, instead it gets 70fps and when charging it gets 200fps+. So im just wondering if its safe to charge at 100%.

You can configure in the bios that it does not load more than 80% and that's it, it never loads at 100.
One question, do you have fps drops in games no matter what settings you put?

Yes, i do also get fos drops on the setting I put it at and recently i have experienced more but not to the point it will make my game look sloppy.

Yes, it is safe to use laptop when charging on ac adapter power.
The battery icon in bottom RH corner should say Fully Charged (100%). The intelligent Dell battery profile will stop charging at Fully Charged (100%).
When only getting 70fps on just battery power, the Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5 laptop Battery (Removing/Installing) might require New Replacement OEM Battery.
Dell Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5 OEM Original XPS 15 (9500) 6-Cell 86Wh Battery DP/N 69KF2, or
Dell Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5 OEM Original XPS 15 (9500) 3-Cell 56Wh Battery DP/N 8FCTC.
When replacement battery arrives, check that year/month date beneath white label's square matrix is less than six months. If no white label and/or more than six months old battery it might be dead. This user advocates get extra purchase protection from Amazon, eBay, etc.
